Methods
Pick a format
Introduction
Choosing where to show up is half the decision. The other half is the form your message takes when it gets there. This worksheet lists 75 methods. A method is a format for your message: a checklist, a case study, a contest, a voice note. Use the list to spark ideas about how to package what you want to say.
Overview
How to use it
This is a divergent thinking tool. Its job is to open up options, not to hand you one right answer. Read the list expecting many formats to feel irrelevant at first. That is normal. Some formats only look useful on the second pass, so keep going.
As you read each method, do not ask “can I use this?” That question shuts ideas down. Ask “how can I use this?” instead. That question pushes you to imagine your message inside the format, and that is where new campaigns start.
Step-by-step guide
-
1
Start from your message
Know what you want to say and who needs to hear it before you open the list. A format is a container. It only works when it fits what you put inside.
-
2
Sweep the full list
Read all 75 items in one sitting. Mark every format that could carry your message. Do not judge yet. Just mark.
-
3
Match the format to the job
Different formats do different jobs. A checklist teaches. A contest activates. A case study convinces. Keep the formats that do the job your message needs done.
-
4
Check your capacity
A format you can produce every week beats a better format you can only produce once. Be honest about your time, your skills, and your budget.
-
5
Commit to a core few
Choose two or three formats and repeat them until people know you for them. Showing up the same way every week builds recognition. Constant novelty does not.
